Searching for the perfect wedding vows that balance tradition with personality? Look no further than "vow volleys," this year's refreshing trend for couples who want custom vows without writing them separately.
Vow volleys create a beautiful rhythm to your ceremony through alternating promises—you say something, your partner responds with their promise, and back and forth you go. This collaborative approach solves the common challenge of vow imbalance while letting both your personalities shine through. As a wedding officiant who's helped countless couples craft their perfect ceremony, I've seen firsthand how this format creates memorable moments that authentically capture relationships.
The beauty of vow volleys lies in their versatility. You can start with traditional elements like promising faithfulness and support before transitioning into personalized pledges that reflect your unique bond. In this episode, my husband Nick joins me to demonstrate a real example from a recent ceremony, where promises range from the profound ("I will be faithful to you and give you all my heart") to the sweetly specific ("I promise to always make you heart pizzas that say I love you" and "I promise to always share the remote").
Whether you're just starting to think about your ceremony or feeling stuck with traditional vow options, this episode offers practical inspiration for creating vows that feel authentic and balanced. Consider how vow volleys might work for your wedding, and tune in next week when I'll share some of the best lines from personal vows I've witnessed throughout my career as an officiant. Subscribe now and discover how your vows can become the most meaningful part of your wedding day!

Welcome to the Vow mini-series on the WeddingWare, with Officiating by Amanda. We are doing a little six-week, just a little deep dive into vows and some of the different vow options you might want for your wedding ceremony. If you're new and joining us in, my name is Amanda. I'm a wedding officiant and I started this podcast in January to tell some stories, share some insights, advice, just laugh and preserve the memories. And after our first 25 episodes, with some added in bonuses, I'm taking a little midsummer hiatus and I'm just going over some vows. Welcome back in this mini-series on vows. This week we are going over some of the custom vow options.
Speaker 1:One of the most rising trend ones I've had this year has been vow volleys. That's v-o-l-l-e-y and it's just like in volleyball. You are hitting back and forth, back and forth, so bride says something, groom says something, and this is really great for when a couple wants to customize their vows but they both don't want to write them their own vows, write them separately. They can kind of collaborate, write them together but on on a similar foot. Instead of both of them then reading identically the exact same thing, they're going to divide and conquer and it's a really great example. I have one here from a couple I worked with previously, and I have many more to be crafting this year, so certainly something to look into with your officiant. And once again, all of these can be taken into, transformed into I do's. They can be transformed into repeat after me's or you can let the couple kind of work and do their own reading. Here to help me today is my wonderful husband, nick Honey.
Speaker 2:You want to say hi, hello, he's awesome, so without further ado, we'll dive in best friend. I will honor your dreams and goals and help you fulfill them.
Speaker 1:I will be faithful to you and will give you all my heart.
Speaker 2:I promise to always make you heart pizzas that say I love you.
Speaker 1:I will always be your word games partner.
Speaker 2:I promise to always give you back scratches before we fall asleep. I promise to always be your person. I promise to always share the remote. My promises to you are based in love.
Speaker 1:So, as you kind of saw with that, the first few were very traditional vows In fact, when I worked with a couple on this, they grabbed them from my traditional vows and the later four were very true to them, very customizable, and legally there's nothing you absolutely have to promise or not promise so you can customize the entire thing or you can let it all lean a little more traditional. But I really like these. There is such a nice ebb and flow balance. Plus each person gets to take some of the weight in the wording for the wedding and say some things. So think about what you might say or want to say.
Speaker 1:Next week I'll be back with some of the best personal vows that couples have done. I won't be sharing full vows, but just some of the best lines that really have shown through and maybe give you some insights if you go the customized route how you want for your wedding vows Special. Thank you to my wonderful husband for making his podcast debut I know surprised it took him this long and helping me read these out. Until next time, this has been Amanda.
